If you\u2019re only using the airbrush 1-2 times a week, deep clean it once a month. If you use your airbrush 4 or more times a week, though, give it a good cleaning once a week. It only takes a few minutes, especially once you are familiar with how to take apart and reassemble your airbrush.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-450efe\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text-title-container  qubely-separator-position-top\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text-title-inner\"><h2 class=\"qubely-block-text-title\">PART 1: Disassembling an Airbrush Gun<\/h2><\/div><\/div><p>1<br><strong>Create a clean workspace.<\/strong>&nbsp;You will have to take the airbrush gun apart to clean it thoroughly. Clear a space where you can set the parts as you take the airbrush apart. The needle cap is a small, round piece of metal at the end of the gun. The nozzle cap is slightly bigger and flares out from top to bottom. Turn to remove them.<br><br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-17cf8345 uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>If you have trouble turning the caps with your fingers, use pliers but clamp down as lightly as possible.<\/div><footer><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left\"><\/div><\/footer><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-8e5130\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>4<br><strong>Detach the nozzle.<\/strong>&nbsp;It will be exposed after you remove the nozzle cap. Use the small wrench that came with the airbrush. If you don\u2019t have the wrench, you may be able to remove it with your fingers or with needle-nosed pliers.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-975d72\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>5<br><strong>Take off the handle.<\/strong>&nbsp;Grasp the back part of the gun and turn to remove the handle. Taking it off exposes the needle assembly. Set the handle aside with the other parts.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-115864\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>6<br><strong>Remove the needle chucking nut.<\/strong>&nbsp;After you remove the cover, you&#8217;ll find the chucking nut threaded part of the way on the needle. It has threads on the front end to make it easy to grip, then it narrows toward the back of the gun.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-20625517 uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>After the nut is unscrewed, the needle will feel loose.<\/div><footer><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left\"><\/div><\/footer><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-16774c\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>7<br><strong>Pull out the needle.<\/strong>&nbsp;You can pull the needle out in either direction, but you may want to pull it out of the front end of the gun. Pulling the needle out the back can spread paint into the middle of the airbrush gun and clog it.<br><br><br><br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-0d9d66\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text-title-container  qubely-separator-position-top\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text-title-inner\"><h1 class=\"qubely-block-text-title\">PART 2: Cleaning the Airbrush Gun Parts<\/h1><\/div><\/div><p><strong>1<br><strong>Place the parts into a glass bowl.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Select a bowl that is large enough to hold all the parts. Don\u2019t use a metal bowl, as the cleaning liquids could react with the metal and damage the airbrush parts.<strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikihow.com\/Clean-an-Airbrush-Gun#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-621dd1\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p><strong>2<br>Fill the bowl with 2 cups of warm distilled water mixed with 2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar.<\/strong>&nbsp;Let the parts soak for 5 minutes; they don\u2019t need to sit in the cleaning liquid very long. It\u2019s best not to soak them overnight, prolonged exposure to the cleaning fluid can wear away lubrication inside the airbrush that helps it perform well.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-2685e6d2 uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>You can use a commercial airbrush cleaner or even rubbing alcohol, but the vinegar and distilled water mix usually works well.<\/div><footer><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left\"><\/div><\/footer><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-705585\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>3<br><strong>Wipe the airbrush parts with a damp paper towel.<\/strong>&nbsp;Carefully clean all the visible surfaces on each piece. Use a cotton swab to get into corners or tighter spots.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-7bf2cd\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>4<br><strong>Clean the channels inside the gun with a small pipe cleaner.<\/strong>&nbsp;Pick a size that just fits inside. Move it back and forth inside the airbrush and turn it a few times to clean thoroughly.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-03e703\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>5<br><strong>Use a cotton swab to clean the paint cup.<\/strong>&nbsp;Wipe it around to clean all the inside surfaces. Don\u2019t forget to clean inside the narrow funnel where the paint flows out.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-552dfdfa uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>If you are cleaning a siphon-feed airbrush, you may need a slightly wider pipe cleaner for the inside of the channel where the paint feeds into the airbrush.<\/div><footer><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left\"><\/div><\/footer><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-dad890\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>6<br><strong>Rinse all of the parts with warm distilled water.<\/strong>&nbsp;Once all the parts have been cleaned, rinse them thoroughly to remove traces of the cleaning liquid. Warm distilled water works best.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-2cc9c4\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>7<br><strong>Set the parts on a towel to dry.<\/strong>&nbsp;Gently shaking off excess moisture can help the parts dry more quickly. Slowly and gently push it toward the front of the gun. It will get harder to push as it gets near the front. Stop pushing when the tip just barely sticks out of the front.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-e2e8cf55 uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>If you feel resistance as you first push the needle in, pull the needle back out a little bit, press and hold the trigger down, then push the needle through again. The needle might be bumping into the trigger.<\/div><footer><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left\"><\/div><\/footer><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-abfdd9\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>2<br><strong>Insert the nozzle and tighten.&nbsp;<\/strong>Because the nozzle is so small, it may be easier to insert it by using needle-nosed pliers. Tighten the nozzle using the small wrench that came with the airbrush. The nozzle is tight enough when it&#8217;s no longer easy to turn it.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-0d7e9d\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>3<br><strong>Screw on the needle chucking nut.<\/strong>&nbsp;Slide it over the needle until it reaches the threads. The narrow end should face toward the back of the gun. Turn to tighten it.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qubely-text qubely-block-41278a\"><div class=\"qubely-block-text  qubely-has-drop-cap\"><p>4<br><strong>Replace the nozzle cap and the needle cap.<\/strong>&nbsp;Slowly place the nozzle cap over the needle point with the narrow end pointing away from the gun. Turn to screw it tightly in place. Carefully place the needle cap over the nozzle cap and turn to tighten it.<br><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-blockquote uagb-block-4ac74322 uagb-blockquote__skin-border uagb-blockquote__stack-img-none\"><blockquote class=\"uagb-blockquote\"><div class=\"uagb-blockquote__content\"><br>If you can\u2019t tighten the caps with your fingers, use pliers.
